Russia mourns plane crash dead

Sochi’s seafront has become a place of mourning, as residents lay flowers and light candles to honour the victims of Sunday’s plane crash.

The Defence Ministry plane crashed shortly after taking off from the city on the Black Sea.

Maxim Sokolov, Russian Transport minister, visited Sochi airport to lead commemorations and lay flowers at a makeshift memorial.

Officials and residents also lit candles and prayed for the dead in the airport chapel.

Solokov said that no survivors were found, though the investigation continues.

In Moscow, staff at Russian’s Channel One, NTV and Zvezda TV stations remembered their nine journalists killed in the crash.

A memorial to the journalists was set up outside Moscow’s Ostankino TV Center,

And head of Channel One, Konstantin Ernst, and Oleg Dobrodeev, head of the All Russian State broadcasting company, laid flowers at the memorial.

Vigils for the victims will continue across Russia, as President Putin declares a day of morning to be held on Monday.
