Cameroon receive tactical war equipment from France

Cameroon

France has provided Cameroon with military armour to aid the country in its fight against militant group Boko Haram.

The equipment which is an assortment of vehicles and tactical war equipment will support Cameroon forces in their war against the Islamist sect.

The equipment was presented by the French Ambassador Christine Robichon to Cameroon on Saturday.

‘‘This set of equipment is quite suitable for special mission units. It will give them mobility, speed and flexibility of performance they need but also the power of fire and personal protection for missions they could be entrusted,’‘ Robichon said.

Boko Haram, whose aim is to implement Islamic law in Nigeria’s northeast, has launched attacks in Nigeria and neighbouring countries including Cameroon.

‘‘This significant donation is timely, it is part of the support of our French friends to the Cameroonian defense forces currently engaged in the war against Boko Haram,’‘ Joseph Beti Assomo, Cameroon’s Defence minister said.

Since backing Nigerian troops in its fight against the jihadist group, Cameroon has often become a target for attacks.

The armed group has carried out a spate of attacks in the Central African country for over two years. The militant group is reported to have killed hundreds of people in the Central African country.

According to reports, in 2014 the militant group was in north Cameroon using the area to stockpile supplies and recruits before a government crackdown.
