The Champions League quarter finals draw is complete leaving eight teams to contest four mouth-watering ties.
The tie brings current Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti back to the club where he won the Champions League in the 2013-14, season his first at the club. But he was then sacked by president Florentino Perez after he finished his second season without winning a major trophy.
While Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueno, was disappointed at drawing Bayern Munich saying he would have hoped to face them later in the competition, Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane says he is eager to play against Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the Champions League, saying the tie would likely be well balanced.
“It’s a teacher-pupil relationship for sure. I was Carlo Ancelotti’s second coach and I learnt a lot from him, he is a really good person and we know what he has done here. The tie is fifty-fifty, before starting a knockout round it’s always like this and even more so with this match,” said Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane.
Ancelotti, meanwhile, said he is excited by Bayern’s tie against what he termed as his “fantastic” former club.
The semifinal draw is on April 21, with the semifinals themselves coming on May 2-3 and 9-10.
The final is on June 3 in Cardiff, Wales.
