Botswana has experienced good levels of economic growth. This is mainly due to a growing mining industry that deals in diamond, copper and nickel.
The overall economic growth of Botswana is very visible, especially in the city of Gaborone.
The capital city has seen a great transformation in the last few years with numerous infrastructure springing up by several private developers.
“The development of infrastructure in Botswana has increased over the years. If you compare with the other countries, such as for example South Africa, there is progress. You can see a huge difference in our cities,” Gaone Arufandika, a Consultant for Aluminum Villa told Africanews’ correspondent in Gaborone.
The last 5 years have been prolific, especially for the capital.
This year however, attention is shifting to the science and technology park which is expected to be ready by June.
Botswana’s center of innovation is located near the Seretse Khama international airport.
The center being built on 93 hectares of land, will support innovative technologies for national development aimed at strengthening the capabilities of Botswana’s technology.
“We are confident that we will be able to open this year, the first phase: a building of approximately 24,000 square meters that includes specialized facilities, auditoriums and meeting rooms,” said Alan Boshwaen, Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH).
Botswana is about to adopt a sustainable development approach that will enable the country properly use its natural endowments to drive economic activities in a way that improves human welfare while maintaining environmental integrity.
