Republic of the Congo
- Republic of the Congo’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso on Friday commissioned the country’s second university. Located at Kintélé, a northern suburb of Brazzaville, the university will be built on an area of 240 hectares with a capacity to host 30,000 students, and will be named after him.*
Work on the 241 billion CFA francs project will be completed in 36 months. This will include the Alma Mater, the School of Engineering, a polytechnic, School of Public Works, Mining, law faculties, health sciences, humanities and others.
The initiative is part of the country’s 2012-2016 national development plan.
Denis Sassou Nguesso is expected to improve accessibility and standards of higher education in Congo Brazzaville, as the 40-year-old Marien Ngouabi University is unable to cope with the ever increasing student population.
