The Walias of Ethiopia began their CHAN 2016 campaign limping, after they were thrashed 3-0 by 2009 champions Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Leopards of Congo had goals from Guy Lusadisu, Herritier Luvumbu and Meshack Ellia to seal the win in a match that was played at Huye Stadium, Sunday afternoon.
The Ethiopians, being Central East Africa Zone representatives alongside hosts Rwanda and regional champions Uganda went to the match hoping that familiarity with the situation in Rwanda would give them edge.
However, the Leopards commanded dominance through out the match with Guy Lusadisu putting them ahead after 44 minutes to go into the break 1-0 up.
They later picked off from where they had left in the second half with Heritier Luvumbu 46th minute header to make it 2-0. Meschack Elia added a third in the 55th minute to complete the rout.
DR Congo, led by coach Florent Ibenge, have featured in all editions of the competition winning the inaugural showpiece in 2009. Ethiopia on the other hand are looking to get hold of their first point ever in the history of the tournament.
