Zimbabwe’s former Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was sacked on Monday and fled the country amid death threats, has vowed to defy President Mugabe and his wife. Mnangagwa, who
fought alongside Mugabe in a guerrilla war and went on to become a feared security chief, said he had been “vilified beyond measure” and was being “hounded by minnows who have no liberation
credentials”. 93 year old President Mugabe accuses his former deputy of plotting to take power from him by showing traits of disloyalty.
But now analyst say this may just be President Robert Mugabe’s biggest political threat in nearly 20 years as opposition to his 37-year rule over Zimbabwe gathers strength around the sacked vice
president.
