Cameroonian great, Roger Milla, has told Africanews AFCON correspondent, Juliet Bawuah, that the Indomitable Lions stand a 90% chance of reaching the final of the competition. The former African champions are chasing fifth AFCON title.
Hugo Broos’ team has made the semi-final stage despite the player withdrawals they were hit by in the run-up to the tournament. As many as seven first choice players pulled out of the squad to concentrate on their club duties.
Milla thinks the team has found ways to win games and had what it takes to make the final on February 5. But they will first have to beat Ghana on Thursday in Franceville in order to book their place in Libreville for the finale against winner of the Egypt – Burkina Faso clash – the first semi-final to be played today.
“If these players managed to get a great game against Senegal, why not against Ghana. I think the team from Senegal was supposed to be the best in the tournament but we managed to eliminate them, so it means we should be able to beat Ghana.
He described the Senegal game as the best the team had played so far in Gabon. It was their fourth game after beating Gabon and drawing with hosts Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to qualify from Group A.
‘‘We have a strong presence of mind. Our players have so far remained resolute. And also, there is this simple tactic of the coach that allows them to go all attacking. But it isn’t going to be an easy task against Ghana. However, i believe we have at least a 90% chance to reach the final,” he added.
