The men fled the scene for fear of police arrest.
An unknown number of illegal miners have been trapped since Wednesday in the abandoned Langlaagte gold mine in Johannesburg.
“We don’t know the number of the people who are trapped. Remember they have indicated that on Wednesday when first group were trapped, on Thursday 16 of their so called team of rescue, they went down who are alleging to go rescue those other ones. Only eight came out and the rest were trapped again, said police spokesperson,” Kay Makhubela.
Four miners were rescued on Sunday.
