Chad
Chadian opposition parties are denouncing numerous abuses and police brutality following the arrest of Mahamat Adoum.
The leader of the Republican National Party was arrested on Saturday while visiting Laekein Medard, the 2016 presidential candidate who is under detention in the southern part of the country.
‘’ And that’s how the beatings started; The military has set out to fight the leaders of the parties. Those who reacted were really molested. The others, they were simply repressed from the town of Moundou. They were sent back to Ndjamena, after being snatched all their phones.
The Chadian Convention for the defence of human rights further states that the delegation was “victim of gross conspiracy”.
“We practically live in a state that is no longer a state of law for some time now. How can we deny the opposition to visit an imprisoned colleague? This regime is frankly dictatorial to us and it is a shame ‘’.
Laokein Medard came in at third place during the 2016 polls. He was later dismissed from his mayoral position for misappropriation of funds, allegations he continuously denies.
