Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell dies


Chris Cornell, lead singer of rock group Soundgarden, has died suddenly at the age of 52.

He passed away on Wednesday night in Detroit, a representative said, just hours after performing in a show.

A medical examiner is still trying to determine the cause of death.

Cornell’s representative, Brian Bumberry, said in a statement: “His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing.

“They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

One of the founders of the grunge movement in Seattle, Cornell embarked on a solo career after Soundgarden’s demise in 1997.

He later formed the band Audioslave before reuniting with Soundgarden in 2010.

Cornell was voted rock’s greatest singer by readers of Guitar World.
