South Africa
South Africa police are investigating a daring robbery that occured Tuesday evening at the country’s OR Tambo international airport. AN unspecified amount of money was stolen by the robbers.
Reports indicate that eight men dressed as police officers using a marked police van and two high-powered vehicles attacked guards who were about to load money onto an aircraft. The attack happened in a section of the airport that was restricted.
The amount of money they made away with is not yet clear. Some media portals are quoting 24 million rands (over $1.8m) whiles others also quote $15m.
A police spokesperson told the News24 portal that they were not ruling out an inside job despite investigations being at an early stage.
“We can’t rule out anything. Please give us time to investigate. We still have to meet with Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) and conduct security checks. It’s still premature to make any pronouncements.”
