Ghanaian Actor Abraham Attah has won the ‘Rising Star’ award at the Black Film Critics Circle for his role in the movie Beasts of No Nation.
Creed won the Best Film of 2015 category.
The US critics’ association said the 14-year-old Ghanaian’s role as an African child soldier was “one of the strongest and most phenomenal we have ever seen” and said he had “a very bright future ahead of him”.
Rising Star
Beasts of No Nation, which received a special mention, is a film about a young West African boy who is forced to become a child soldier during a civil war that tore his family apart.
The 14-year-old had already won the Best Young Actor award at the Venice Film Festival in September 2015 for his role in the same movie.
He starred along Hollywood actor Idris Elba and Ghanaian actors Ama K. Abebrese, Grace Nortey and David Dontoh. The movie was directed by Cary Joji Fuknaga and shot in Ghana.
