Nigeria
Nigerian military officials have warned parents to stop giving their daughters out to be used as suicide bombers by Boko Haram.
The warning comes after some arrested female suicide bombers confessed that they are being pushed to do so by their parents in North-East Nigeria who have accepted Boko Haram’s doctrine that a suicide bomber who dies while on duty goes straight to paradise.
The shift toward women and children in suicide bombings represents the implementation of a strategic measure which started in 2015, when Boko Haram began experimenting more regularly with female bombers.
There are fears that the terrorists are also turning kidnapped female victims into instruments for terrorism.
Religious and community leaders have being advised to help in stopping the practice.
