CAF president rejects salary, reiterates his transparency pledge

New African football chief, Ahmad Ahmad, has stated that he will not be taking his salary as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ahmad rose to become the most powerful African football administrator in March this year after defeating long-serving Issa Hayatou. The Cameroonian administrator had been at the helm of CAF for almost three decades.

“I’ve refused a Caf salary for the simple reason it doesn’t respect good administration,” BBC Sport quotes the former Madagascan football chief as saying.

“The salaries of all Caf employees, from administrators to the executive committee and president, all have to be transparent,” he added.

Ahmad who won the polls with the promise to reform CAF has reiterated his position to look at the re-investment of Caf resources to aid the development of football across the continent. According to him, “Caf is not here to make money to enrich itself.”

57-year-old Ahmad had a discreet playing and coaching career before he became president of the Madagascar Football Federation in 2003.
