Outgoing Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane has been reappointed into office on Monday after the Islamist party won parliamentary elections on Friday.
A statement from the royal palace said Mohammed VI appointed Mr. Benkirane as Prime Minister and has asked him to form a new government.
The appointment comes after the victory of the Islamist PJD (Justice and Development Party) won the legislative election held on Friday in the country.
Benkirane was the head of the coalition government for five years after the victory of the PJD in the 2011 legislative elections held in the wake of a constitutional review conducted by Mohammed VI to reduce tension during the “February 20 movement”.
On Friday, the PJD, which Mr. Benkirane is the general secretary, won 125 seats, against 102 for its main opponent, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).
