South African anti-apartheid hero Winnie Mandela has undergone a minor surgery on her knee and the family said the procedure was successful.
The first wife of Nelson Mandela was admitted at the Milpark Hospital on Tuesday evening and will stay at the hospital for the next two weeks to recover, her spokesperson Victor Dlamini told local media.
“I visited her at the hospital this afternoon and she was in high spirits. She said her health problems go back to her time when she was banished to Brandtfort [in 1969] and her knee first started giving her trouble,” he said.
He added that she’s looking forward to the ANC conference in December which will choose the replacement of President Jacob Zuma.
