Another man, former Portuguese prime minister Antonio Guterres has emerged as the likely candidate to become next UN Secretary General. Some have asked why not a woman but Guterres, once head of the UN refugee agency, was the Security Council’s unanimous choice. However, a final decision will be made in a formal vote at the Council before going to the General Assembly.
