Mexico
Mexican authorities have confirmed that the son of jailed drug lord Joaquin Guzman better know as ‘El Chapo’ is amongst those who were kidnapped at an upscale resort in Puerto Vallarta.
A state attorney general told a news briefing that one of Guzman’s sons, 29 year old Alfredo Guzman Salazar, was among the estimated 12 victims who are believed to be kidnapped by a rival cartel.
“A person by the name of Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, 29-years-old, is the son of Joaquin Guzman Loera,” said Jalisco attorney general, Eduardo Almaguer.
Seven gunmen stormed the restaurant early on Monday and conducted the act. The attorney general noted that several of the victims had false identities which further complicates the ongoing investigations.
In 2008, another of Guzmna’s son Edgar was murdered by hitmen from a rival gang.
