A new taxi company has replaced cars with motor cycles as a mean to get around Egypt’s largest city of Alexandria.
Founded last year and known as Cabi, its services are becoming popular as customers say they are faster and cheaper.
Cabi Initially started as a hobby, but has now been turned into a lucrative business model.
“It’s a new idea, and a good one, especially now that the youth have started riding scooters. It’s a new phenomenon, everyone goes to work on scooters,” Mohammed Saad El Din, CABI CEO and founder said.
Customers who use the services can save time and money as its size allows it to zoom through streets and traffic jams and costs about a quarter of a regular taxi ride.
Clients book their rides through mobile application or call centres, providing their pick up and drop off points.
More women have been showing interest to become drivers with Cabi.
“I see having a female driver is a good idea, I used to be worried when riding a taxi with a male driver especially as he was a stranger. So it was nice,” Cabi customer, Yasmine Samy.
Cabi is the only taxi company in Egypt using motorcycles and scooters, according to its founder. It is currently in its first year of operation and hopes to expand to Cairo in the near future.
