A video shot by a passenger inside a smoke-filled cabin during the emergency crashing of the Emirates Boeing 777 on Wednesday shows confusion and chaos as passengers evacuate the aircraft seconds before the plane was engulfed in fire
Flight EK521 flying from India to Dubai made an emergency landing before it burst into flames at the Dubai International Airport.
There are currently various and conflicting speculations as to how and why the plane crashed.
Chairperson of Emirates, Sheik Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum says an investigation is underway and sought to quell the idea that the crew members were some how to be blamed for the manner in which the plane landed:
“Both the captain and the first officer have over 7,000 hours of flying experience. Emirates is fully collaborating with the local authority to determine the cause of the incident,” he said.
Responding to a reporter’s question on rumours that the plane’s landing gear failed to deploy, Sheikh Ahmed refused to comment saying only it was too soon to discuss the cause of the crash.
“I don’t want to give you something which is not 100 percent transparent in my view that I will be able to say at this minute.”
While all the passengers were safely evacuated, one fire fighter was killed whilst putting off the fire and 17 people were admitted to hospital.
