Kenya
Kenyan and World Cross Country Champion Geoffrey Kamworor, and Africa Cross Country silver medallist Alice Aprot have both won the country’s National Cross Country championship.
Kamworor won the men’s 10km race in 28:19 seconds beating last year’s champion Bedan Karoki, who made some 28:24 seconds.
Aprot won the women’s event.
A good showing, it was a repeat of last year’s National and World Cross Country championships.
Cross Country champion Leonard Barsaton came in third clocking 28:26 seconds.
Meanwhile, the interim president of Athletics Kenya also spoke of the growing concerns of Zika virus ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
“We are going to the Olympics, that’s for sure. And we are preparing very seriously. For the Zika we have been assured by the Brazilian authorities and the Olympic authorities that everything will be taken care of and there for I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. Our athletes should not worry at all, we have been assured,“Jackson Tuwei interim president of Athletics Kenya said.
Kenya has said it might pull out of this year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, if the current Zika virus outbreak is not contained before the global event set for August.
