Nigeria
Nigeria’s president resumed official duties on Monday, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu has said.
The presidential aide further said that Buhari has transmitted a letter to the National Assembly in order to make his return to work formal and constitutional.
The Constitution requires the president to transmit a letter to the National Assembly notifying it that he wishes to resume his functions as president.
Buhari returned to Nigeria after a 50 day medical vacation but continued his rest while the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo acted as president.
Buhari has in the meantime assured Nigerians that he is fine and much better but said he will need further checks in the coming weeks.
Critics have however questioned whether the 74 year old president is well enough to hold office and his public appearances are set to be scrutinised for any signs of physical weakness.
