Chad
Chadian opposition Member of Parliament, Ngarledji Yorongar has filed a kidnapping and torture complaint against a former Chadian security head, Ishmael Mahamat Chaibo.
The complaint filed in Paris on Wednesday dates back to an issue which happened in 2008.
Three Key figures within the non-armed opposition including Yorongar were reportedly detained for 19 days after a botched coup attempt which saw an estimated 4,000 rebels clash with government forces close to the capital, N’Djamena.
Yorongar decided to seek redress in France where Mahamat Chaibo now lives because under French law, the case can commence once the defendant resides there.
Relatives and supporters of Ishmael Chaïbo whose connection to the case is not yet clear have dismissed the case saying Yorongar should have filed the complaint years ago, describing his recent action as a publicity stunt.
