USA

Police made dozens of arrests in Baton Rouge as protests grow following the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling.

Baton Rouge police arrested as many as 100 people for obstruction of a major route in the area known as Airline Highway.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said law enforcement had acted in a “moderate manner” and the majority of protesters behaved in peacefully.

“I noticed that there were protesters, came in and my daughter was on the porch and we recognized they were going to be arrested. They were in the street. We asked them to come into the yard for safety. As I said before, I have friends on the other side of the street. I care about them and they’re good police officers. But these people needed to have a refuge and so I gave it to them,” said Lisa Batiste who offered shelter to he demonstrators.

People took to the streets crowding downtown Atlanta calling for an end to police violence while splinter groups blocked traffic and goaded authorities.
