Mauritania
President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, arrived in Noukchott on Thursday, where he laid a foundation stone for the first Palestinian embassy in Mauritania.
Abbas who was welcomed by the Mauritanian head of state Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, is on a tour that will include a trip to Venezuela to participate in the Non-Aligned summit.
According to local media in Mauritania, discussions between the two leaders focussed on efforts to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and attempts to reviving peace talks.
The Mauritanian president has been the Arab League chair since the last summit of the organization in July in Nouakchott, where only six of his peers had attended, due to divisions regarding the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
