Aisha Buhari, wife of the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday left the country to visit her ailing husband in the United Kingdom.
Mrs Buhari earlier this year commented on her husband’s health status stating that it was not bad as was being perceived. She went on to thank Nigerians for their prayers for Buhari.
Days later, the septuagenarian flew out to the UK for further medical tests. He left after receiving over 80 Chibok Girls who were released in an exchange by the Boko Haram group.
A statement released from her office read, “Her Excellency will spend some time with her husband President Muhammadu Buhari who is presently on medical vacation.
“She (Aisha Buhari) expressed her appreciation to the millions of Nigerians who have been praying for his quick and safe return,” it added.
He only returned home in March this year after a first visit to his doctors. He officially wrote to the legislature to handover power officially to his vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo – who is referred to as “Acting President,” in Buhari’s absence.
The presidency has insisted that Buhari’s health status was confidential and that only he could disclose the nature of the illness. The last known medical condition that he was suffering from was an ear infection for which he sought treatment in October last year.
