Kenya's ruling coalition launches new party

Kenya

Kenya’s ruling coalition launched a new party on Saturday ahead of the country’s general elections next year.

The coalition merged President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ‘The National Alliance’ with Deputy President William Ruto’s United Republican Party and at least 10 other coalition parties.

Thousands of delegates attended the launch of the party, that will be used by President Kenyatta to seek re-election next year.

“This party that we launch is not about William Ruto nor about Uhuru Kenyatta, it is about a generational statement of change. It is the living proof that we have learnt from the mistakes of our predecessors, it is the embodiment of the will of the Kenyan people who are deeply tired of political parties that are nothing more than special purpose vehicles to elect selfish leaders or enclaves designed to protect tribal interests at the expense of the national good,” said Kenyatta

The Jubilee party is expected to face the country’s main opposition party the Orange Democratic Party in the next presidential and parliamentary elections on August 8 next year.
