The leader of Zimbabwe’s social media movement #ThisFlag which is protesting rampant and runaway corruption by the government has been summoned by the police.
Pastor Evan Mawarire has been charged with inciting public violence and disturbing the peace for calling for a stay away protest.
The call, observed by many workers, left Zimbabwe’s main cities deserted – an act considered the biggest strike action since 2005.
Mawarire has called for another two-day stay away starting Wednesday as part of his #ThisFlag movement.
The Southern African nation is on the verge of collapse as the country’s economic hardship continues to hit new lows.
Zimbabwe has been gripped by a devastating drought and an acute shortage of cash that has angered its citizens.
