Democratic Republic Of Congo
More than a dozen people have lost their lives following renewed fighting this weekend between the Congolese army and Mai Mai militiamen at Lukweti, near northern Goma, local sources say.
Military sources have confirmed that the clashes at Lukweti occurred but refused to comment on the number of casualties.
According to local sources, eight of those killed are militiamen while six others are members of the Congolese army.
The army however says it pushed back a militant attack on Saturday morning near Eringeti at Beni located east of DRC.
A military source said four militiamen were killed and seven others captured during the attack near Eringeti village. Various armed groups in the eastern part of the country are battling to control the area which is rich in mineral resources.
