Angola
Angola’s supreme court has summoned Angolan president Jose Eduardo dos Santos and his daughter over the latter’s appointment to head Angola’s national oil company.
The court was acting in response to a case filed by 14 Angolan lawyers who accused the president of nepotism and violation of Angolan probity law.
President dos Santos in June appointed Africa’s richest woman and his eldest daughter Isabel dos Santos, a non-executive director of the state owned firm Sonangol.
Analysts say her powerful role at Sonangol may position her for political office in the country, where her father has ruled for 37 years.
The southern Africa country has vast oil wealth which has not trickled down to the masses and the dos Santos family is accused by critics of amassing huge wealth by siphoning state funds.
