Chad has announced the formation of an anti-corruption court.
Chad to form anti-corruption court
President Idriss Deby said the court will be dedicated to economic crimes which is hampering the country’s growth.
During his state of the nation address, the 64 year old leader said that in addition to the slow down in global economic growth, other factors have compromised the development of Chad.
He further said that corruption and embezzlement public funds have seriously hurt the country’s development.
Nevertheless, the formation of the new court has been met with different reactions from various quarters. Many question the effectiveness of such a court since there is already the General Inspection of State and the Court of Auditors.
In 2015, Chad was listed among world’s top 10 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index.
