[Photos] UNICEF Nigeria's heartbreaking picture of a 15-year-old displaced boy

The activities of humanitarian groups in Nigeria’s northeast has been in the spotlight recently with a group like ‘Doctors Without Borders’ warning of a looming crisis in most Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) camps.

The United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Nigeria posted heartbreaking pictures of a 15-year-old boy (out of school, struggling to make ends meet) who was scavenging on a refuse dump in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State.

UNICEF captioned the photo as follows: ‘‘Every child deserves a fair start in life. 15 year-old Muhammad Modu, displaced by the conflict in North East Nigeria, isn’t getting one. He is digging through a rubbish dump in the town of Maiduguri, looking for things to sell, making less than a dollar after two to three days’ effort. He can’t afford to go to school.’‘
