Tunisia's paralympic athletes are back home

Sports lovers turned out massively on Wednesday to welcome Tunisian paralympic athletes coming back from Rio.

The Tunisian delegation grabbed 19 medals including 7 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

“Everything is possible. And we should ask ourself why can’t I perform like her. We have the same weaknesses. I worked harder and thanks to God I have been able to win two medals,” one of the medallist, Raoua Tlili said.

“If comparison is made between 2012 and 2016 it is true that we are in average of the medals won. Now the team has been rejuvenated. 40 percent of the athletes are new. And among the 40 percent we have six who went to the podium,” the chairman of Tunisia’s paralympic committee, Mohammed Mzoughi said.

Tunisia athletics authorities say they want to develop paralympic games further.

“The most important is to develop and support the federation and also to prepare for the 2020 and 2024 paralympics,” Tunisian sports minister Majdouline Chemi said.

Tunisia occupies the 21st position in the medal classification table of the paralympic games. The North African Nation also emerged as Africa’s 2nd best behind Nigeria.
