A week after celebrating its seventh year in the social media world, Whatsapp announced it will cease to support some older versions of various phone operating systems.

The Facebook-owned company revealed in a blogpost they will focus on platforms majority smartphone owners use.
“As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use,” the statement said.
By the end of 2016, they will end supporting the BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 operating systems.
WhatsApp has evolved and now offers voice calls with video calls reportedly being added too.
Their statement said these devices’ OS do not offer the kind of capabilities they need to expand the app’s features in the future.
The app was acquired by Facebook in October 2014 for some $19 Billion.
