Libya's heritage site threatened by conflict [The Morning Call]

Libya’s ancient city of Sabratha remains an awe-inspiring spectacle. The world heritage site is classed as “endangered” by UNESCO as it bears the scars of clashes between rival militia groups in the country.

Today, the site around 70 kilometres from the capital lies eerily abandoned, encircled by parched grass and weeds. And experts fear the country’s archaeological heritage is at great risk and the worse could come for its historic sites.
