Hitch-hiking in Africa [Travel]

For many travellers, comfort and convenience is key to getting from one location to another. In Africa a majority travel by road to reach their destinations while a few travel by plane, train or sea.

In this week’s segment we focus on hitch-hiking. When you hitch through Africa, you experience it not as a tourist but as a traveler. Through miles of walking, you have the chance to truly absorb and reflect on the country. You meet countless people who depart invaluable knowledge and lend support to your journey.

I had the opportunity to meet with a hitch hiker who shared her experience.

Monika Masaj is a 25 year old lady from Poland who started traversing the continent a year ago. Masaj who started her journey from Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt had initially intended to end her trip in Cape Town before going to Europe. She is now in Central Africa as she looks to travel to the North part of the continent.
