Three suicide bombers killed in foiled attacks in northeastern Nigeria

Three suicide bombers have been killed in two foiled suicide attacks in the outskirts of the Borno State capital, Maiduguri leaving one civilian injured and a truck partly damaged, Nigerian police said on Sunday.

“Today, at about 0438 hours, two male suicide bombers detonated Improvised Explosive Devised (IED) strapped to their bodies near Alhaji Bukar Gujari Filling station in Muna Garage area at the entrance of Maiduguri. All the bombers died instantly without killing anybody,” State police spokesperson Victor Isuku said in a statement.

He also added that another suspected suicide bomber “detonated his bomb at Dusuma village in Jere LGA killing himself and injuring a man” who tried to stop him.

A truck was partly damaged in the first blast, Victor Isuku said.

Maiduguri has been the city worst hit by Boko Haram’s eight-year-old campaign to create an Islamic caliphate in northeastern Nigeria.

These attacks have killed about 15,000 people and forced more than 2 million to flee their homes.
