Some of the good news we’ve had is the introduction of the African Union electronic passports unveiled in July at the AU summit in Kigali, Rwanda. Still in Rwanda, the Kigali International Airport was ranked 3rd fastest growing airport in Africa.
Kigali was also rated most attractive city in Eastern Africa for its global hospitality, according to hospitality industry executives who attended the Fourth Annual Africa Hotel Expansion meeting.
We had more good news with Zimbabwe and Rwanda featuring in the Condé Nast ranking for the Best Places to Travel in 2017. Both countries being the only African destinations on the list.
Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya agreed to jointly promote and market tourist destinations in the three countries as a follow up to an agreement to have a single tourist visa.
There was good news for Egypt too as Luxor was named the 2016 World Tourism Capital.
Finally, we can’t forget to mention the African air travel spending expected to rise 24 per cent with the introduction of the pan-African passport in 2018, a new report revealed.
