Platini acknowledged the court’s decision but described the ban as profound injustice.

Michel Platini and former FIFA president Sepp Blatter have denied wrongdoing after been found guilty of ethical breaches.

The panel said it was not convinced with the legitimacy of the 1.8 million euros paid to Platini by Blatter in 2011.

Platini has been UEFA president since 2007 and his ban was schedule to expire in 2019.

He says life is full of surprises and the resignation gives him more time to face his legal battles.
