South Africa’s militant opposition party the Economic Freedom Fighters said it will not flinch at threats from the ruling party to take it to court.
S. Africa's opposition EFF ready to face ruling ANC in court over treason charge
The African National Congress on Monday evening filed a treason charge against the EFF’s leader Julius Malema after he threatened to remove President Jacob Zuma’s government from power with the “barrel of a gun”.
The ANC describes the remarks as seditious and a call to violence and says they should be treated with extreme seriousness.
Speaking to Africanews, the EFF’s General Secretary Godrich Gardee said they are more than ready for the court battle.
“We are going to tech them the law. We are more than ready to meet them in court, so be it. We will argue our case in court. We are not convinced otherwise and cannot be threatened or intimidated by the ANC in court, they don’nt know anything about court, they always misinterpret the determination of the courts. We are more than redy for them let them come,” he said.
The EFF together with other opposition parties attempted to have Zuma impeached in Parliament some three weeks ago, but failed.
