Sunday’s runoff poll was contested by the incumbent vice president, a former coup leader who ruled the country for seven years and another opposition candidate.
Vice President Mohamed Ali Soilih who led the first round poll with just over 17 % of the votes, faced stiff competition from his two contenders in the runoff poll according to sources.
Tension was reportedly high on the Anjouan Islands, one of three islands that form the Comoros Islands.
They, like voters from the two other islands will have to decide who becomes the next leader of the Comoros islands.
