TV series on taxi life takes Mali by storm

A new TV series “Taxi Tigui” is gaining popularity in Mali. A taxi in the comedy known as F-One transports passengers of different walks of life and the public can identify themselves with each of the passengers.

The producers of the movie hope the comedy will be able to increase the local consumption of African movies at a time when African households find pleasure in watching series from South America.

“Our characters represent people of all walks of life. The rich, poor, villagers , those who talk a lot. The F-One taxi carries almost every type of character,” Toumani Sangare, one of the producers said.

The main actor through the comic series, Koman Diabaté, claims his taxi F-One is the fastest in Mali.

His acting style has been helpful in exposing the main ills in the taxi business.

“It is fun. Through this F-One we narrate social happenings. The film therefore portrays what happens in Mali in cultural, economic political aspects. Everything is discussed,” Diabaté said.

There are no taboo topics in this comedy. Local celebrities like musicians and and comedians have been included to pull crowds.

The feedback from the public has been mainly positive and gives the producers the zeal to do more.

“Imported movies no longer interest us. We will like to have resources so as to help young talents. We identify with the series and this helps us to laugh,” Modibo Haidara, a fan of the movie said.

The new series is expected to help increase passion for movies especially as cinema halls are closed. The producers of the TV series are looking forward to export the movies to other countries in the days ahead.
