Kenya’s power outfit on Saturday morning issued a statement announcing a nationwide power outage as a result of a technical hitch.
A statement from Kenya Power said, ‘‘The morning at 5:34 am we experienced a technical hitch that led to tripping of our main supply – Olkaria Nairobi 220 KV line consequently leading to a power outage in most parts of the country.’‘
They added further that their teams were working to normalize the situation and restore supply. ‘‘We regret the conviniences caused,’‘ they concluded.
Twitter reaction despite power restoration in parts of the country.
“We are glad to inform the public that power supply to the following areas has been restored: North Rift, west Kenya, South Nyanza, Kisii, Mt Kenya and parts of Central Rift,” Kenya Power stated in a subsequent communication.
But that did not stop the Twitter happy Kenyans hitting out at the power company.
Whiles some made light of the issue, others called for the head of the company, Ben Chumo. Others mocked the prospect of Kenya Power being an internet provider. Many others said it was time for the monopoly enjoyed by Kenya Power to end.
A combination of fun, serious and angry tweeters continue to express their views on the outage.
