The Morning Call
The mayor of Niamey in Niger was relieved of his duties last week on Thursday following a decision taken by the country’s Council of Ministers. He is being accused of embezzling several billions of CFA Francs from the city coffers coming a week after Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou paid a visit to the area.
Several mayors across the country have so far been dismissed since 2013 under the same count of embezzlement of public funds.
