Hubert Oulaye, a former Ivorian minister and close ally to ex-Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo has been granted provisional release.
After two years of detention, the former Minister of civil service and employment who is also a member of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI), regained freedom after several persuasions before the court.
“It is a provisional release on the understanding that the indictment chamber has already taken a decision to refer the accused to the assizes that will be held shortly. THis will definitely determine his fate” , said Aly Yang, attorney General of the Abidjan Court.
Hubert Oulaye is accused of murder and complicity in the killing of UNOCI soldiers in the west of the country. He should “appear before the next hearing“according to his lawyer, Rodrigue Dadjé, without specifying the date of the trial.
“We want to move ahead with the cases of all the political prisoners, to to put an end to it ‘ “At the end ; they will be judged, it is either they will be declared innocent or they will be found guilty, They can not remain in prison indefinitely”, he further stressed.
Seven UN peacekeepers from the UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (Onuci) and eight civilians were killed in June 2012 near Guiglo, the place of origin of the accused.
