Guinea

Former military aide of Dadis Moussa Camara, Toumba Diakité says he does not want to be extradited to Guinea where he risks prosecution for his alleged responsibility in the Conakry massacre of September 28 2009, RFI reports.

He made this request while being grilled by a prosecutor on Wednesday at the Dakar court of Appeal two weeks after his arrest in the Senegalese capital.

He had been on the run for seven years after an international arrest warrant was issued against him by Guinean authorities.

According to his lawyer who was contacted by RFI, Toumba Diakité has asked Senegalese authorities, the possibility to settle in Senegal while waiting for the arrest of other suspects involved in the Conakry stadium case.

Meantime , Guinea has not yet filed a request for the extradition of the former head of the Presidential Guard.

The defense reserves the right to request the provisional release of his client if a request for extradition is not formulated in a period of 21 days starting December 28.
