Over 137 migrants of different nationalities among them 27 women and 2 children have been intercepted off Libya’s coast of Mediterranean sea early Friday, confirmed by Libya’s Naval authority.
“At the dawn of this morning, 137 migrants have been saved, among them there are 27 women and two children. The rest are men and all are of different nationalities,” said Ali Zartu, Libya’s Naval authority
Many migrants have in the recent days been moving to Europe to escape both economical and political instability in their country.
“Due to low economy everyone is forced, we decided to leave the country, you cannot feed, you cannot eat, all of are suffering, we are suffering.”
“Here we are more than 130 people taking risks, taking risks, we are risking our lives due to the poor conditions.”
Libya has become a major hub for migrants as people traffickers exploit lawlessness in the country.The country had warned that it does not have the resources to control the flow of people heading to Europe and has accused the EU of failing to deliver on promises of help.
