French forward Hatem Ben Arfa has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal under the team’s new coach Unai Emery.
During the last season, he scored 17 league goals, many of which were spectacular, helping Nice to finish in fourth place and secure a place in the Europa League.
The former new castle winger was available for a free transfer after his contract with Nice expired.
“It’s true that I was very close to signing with Sevilla but I had discussions at the last minute with the managers who told me to think it through and if I wanted to win the Champions League, I had to sign with Paris. So I did and I decided to come here”, he said.
His ambition is also that of PSG which explains the recruitment of new coach, Unai Emery who set out his target saying, “the Champions League is clearly our objective. It’s a dream, a motivation, the direction which the club would like to follow. The President didn’t tell me the objective was to win the Champions League but to grow, improve and progress. The champions league would be an important step.’‘
Since buying PSG in 2011, the Qatari owners have invested over 550 million euros in recruitment.
The biggest transfer in the history of the club and France is that of Edinson Cavani at 64.5 million Euros.
