Manchester United appoint Mourinho as new manager

Manchester United have appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

José Mourinho has this afternoon signed his Manchester United managerial contract at secret location in London. Club announcement on Friday.

The 53-year-old Portuguese replaces Dutchman Louis van Gaal whose two-year reign at Old Trafford ended on Monday, two days after United lifted the FA Cup.

The self-styled “Special One”, Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December, ending his second spell in charge of the London club. He has also managed Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Discussions, which started on Tuesday and were delayed by negotiations over Mourinho’s image rights, finally finished on Thursday.

José Mourinho's first match in charge of Manchester United will be against Borussia Dortmund over in Shanghai on Friday 22nd July.
